We moved to the Netherlands when my Dutch employer transferred me over here from Cape Town, South Africa. As perhaps everyone else in such a situation, we’ve had so many questions about finding a place to live, a school for the kids and getting the family registered. My employer put me in contact with Expat@Home and from the start, we had a very good feeling about the service we received.

Renting out your primary residence during a temporary overseas assignment seems like an attractive proposition: the house remains occupied while it also generates income. The latter is tax free, so really a ‘no-brainer’. However, there are a few considerations. One of which is a focal point for the tenants in case they have questions or problems with the house. Inevitably, there will be some issues to address, such as a dripping tap, a broken washing machine, storm damage to the house, etc.

We have used ‘Expat@Home’s service for over 5 years now and we are very pleased with the level of service such as response time, contact with the tenants and effectiveness in addressing any queries or issues. We used Jeanette Siebinga to manage our house in The Hague in 2016. We live in the UK and found Jeanette’s help invaluable in overseeing the Check-Out of our tenants, assessing any work required to the house, and arranging for it to be carried out quickly and efficiently prior to our house being sold. Jeanette took over the management of our property at a challenging time as our previous managing agent had had to move overseas at short notice and our tenants had coincidentally given Notice to leave. However, Jeanette provided a seamless service with her predecessor, and took over responsibility for the property and managed all aspects of the role with great professionalism and ease. What particularly impressed us was her pro-activity and responsiveness and in particular the way in which she communicated very clearly and thoughtfully with us. This open communication was invaluable to us as we lived so far away. Although we only worked with Jeanette for a relatively short period, we were very impressed by all of our interactions with her. We would not hesitate to recommend her to any other owner of a property in the general area of The Hague who needs someone to manage his or her house locally.

We have now worked with Jeanette for about 4 years, since our previous agent retired. During these years some relatively unusual events occurred and it has become very apparent that Jeanette has been a wonderful find. She combines a very thorough knowledge of the house rental business with impeccable English and a great work ethic. Also, the business model she uses means that, in contrast to the use of makelaars as managing agents, we only pay when something needs doing. We still own a property in Den Haag but we now live in Australia, almost as far away as we could be and the knowledge that the day to day management of the property is in such capable hands could not be more reassuring.
